The Word from Bird School of Music
March 29, 2010

Dear Parents & Musicians:

Our David Bowie session is well underway, and it rocks!  Mark your calendars now for the performance for this session, which will be April 25th (Tech Week April 19-23) and promises to be a lot of fun.

Don't forget, Bird Bands will be off the week of April 5-9 for Spring Break. We'll resume the full schedule on Monday, April 12.  Bands, please let us know as soon as possible if you will be in town that week and would like to schedule an extra session.  Private and semi-private lessons will continue as usual, so let us know if you're not going to be around.

Also on the horizon: Our popular May Intensives, a 5-week mini-session that fills the gap between the end of our current session and the start of summer camps.  This year May Intensives will run May 3-June 4, with a concert June 6.  This session is open-themed, and each band will perform a song of its choosing.  Sign-up details are on the website.

Last but not least, we have Summer Camp!  Students at our "Video of a Video" camps will work with film students from UC Berkeley to create music videos inspired by famous videos of the past.  Week-long camps for grades 2-8 run all summer long. Details and a sign-up link here

Set List Concert
Our "Set List" bands, which prepare 3 songs during an 11-week session, will be strutting their stuff in concert Sunday, May 9th at 5pm at Bird.  If you're a veteran or advanced band with the chops to find and master new material or even create original songs as you work toward performing a full set of music, contact us to find out about joining the Set List program.

ACT's Young Conservatory

ACT Update

We've selected the band for our Rufus Wainwright-themed collaboration with ACT's Young Conservatory -- thanks to everyone who worked hard and tried out.  Rehearsals got underway last week.  The show runs May 14-29 at Zeum.
