The Word from Bird School of Music - ACT Collaboration
Auditioning Now

We're pleased to announce that Bird is working on our fourth collaboration with The American Conservatory Theater's Young Conservatory program.  This year's spring original musical production will be "I Don’t Know What It Is: The Music of Rufus Wainwright."  Set in New York City during the Panic of 1893, this timely musical tells the story of a privileged youth looking for meaning as his father is investigated for corrupt business practices amidst a collapsing economy.

Once again, Bird will be wrangling and rehearsing the band that accompanies the Young Conservatory's singers and actors.  This year's music will be a fairly "symphonic" interpretation of already complex stuff, so we're looking for a group of student musicians (ages 14-18) that goes beyond guitar/bass/percussion to include horns and other instruments, too.

Auditions are going on now at Bird through March 5, 2010, and the show will open May 14th at the Zeum Theater for a 2-week run.   There's an amazing camaraderie that happens between all the kids that come together to bring these plays to the stage.  If you think you've got the musical chops to master this material and what it takes to keep up with a demanding rehearsal and performance schedule, we want to hear from you.
