The Word from Bird School of Music
May 5, 2009

Dear Parents & Musicians:

While some of our kids had reservations about interpreting the music and lyrics of Bruce Springsteen for the Session III concert that took place on Sunday night, the show exceeded all of our expectations.  Our hats are off to all of you young musicians and parents who participated in making the performance the best yet (we always say that and it's always true).

Along with our familiar and ever increasing skillful students, we welcomed 4 brand new bands to the stage to help celebrate the songwriting of The Boss.  Each band presented a truly unique rendition of a Bruce tune and we were all amazed at the variety of songs chosen as well as the confidence with which they were played.  Check out the eclectic songlist:

Songlist from Session III Concert:
Born to Run
The Rising
Thunder Road
Rosalita
I’m Goin’ Down
10th Avenue Freeze Out
Spirits in the Night
Glory Days
Radio Nowhere
Hungry Heart
Dancin’ in the Dark
New York City Seranade
Growin’ Up
The Wrestler
Brilliant Disguise

On that very same weekend, our wonderful veteran bands put on a mini concert at the Bird, each playing a set of music for a smaller yet no less appreciative audience.  The songs ranged from Beatles to Radiohead.  Not a dry eye in the house...

And so, with the end of April comes May and the May mini session at Bird.  It started this Monday, May 4, so please, if you haven't already, let us know if you'd like to come play with us until summer begins.  There are 5 weeks left and we'll have our annual underground performance on June 7, 2009.  It's short, it's sweet and it's very low-key.  It's great way for a new band to get its feet wet.  Sign up now!

That's all for now.

Have you?

...let out a big scream in our amazingly quiet new Whisper Room?

...signed up for Summer Camp?  Weekly Summer of Love sessions begin June 15 and continue summerlong.
