February 10, 2009
Dear Parents, Musicians and Friends:
It just keeps getting better, doesn’t it? On Sunday, we had an unprecedented turn-out to cheer
on our bands as they brought us the British Invasion. Never has GLORIA sounded so alive nor has MY GENERATION felt so timely.
With 16 bands participating, there are too many highlights to mention, but suffice it to say that everyone
showed remarkable improvement and awed us all with their growing confidence. Thanks to everyone who came as parents,
friends and family, and welcome to those who showed up just to see what’s up at Bird.
So, here is what is up and what will be up for the weeks, months to come:
Session III begins February 23. We'll be covering The Boss, Bruce Springsteen, this time around. Most of you know
him from way back when, but he’s been about as prevalent and some say relevant as Obama these days so
polish your saxophone and join the movement. The music and words of Bruce Springsteen do feel good and
hopefully will speak to our young community musically and philosophically. Surely there will be much inspiration for
the aspiring songwriter within the catalogue of this artist. Sign up now because we’re off next
week. We’ll see you all back here on February 23.
Have a great break.

SUMMER OF LOVE CAMPS
Our weekly music camps are open to 2-4th graders and 5-8th Graders, beginning June 15 continuing through August 28. Check our website for times and tuition and to sign up online. We’ll dive into the San Francisco summer that shaped the way we all see music and the ties that bind. Be prepared to explore the variety of great music that came from the period and the place, jam in a band and even dabble in songwriting. We’ll make videos and check out historical neighborhood spots. What better way to embrace summer in the city?
OPEN MIC NIGHTS
We’ve had much interest in our Open Mic performance opportunities. If you are a current student at Bird or if you sing and/or play an instrument, come see us the 3rd Wednesday of every month at 7:30pm (sign up now for the next one March 18) to polish your stage presence. If you’ve never had an audience for your passion, Bird Open Mic will be a very low-key and friendly introduction to sharing your work. Please call us or email to register for the next one.
UKE CLINIC
Ukulele clinic, 7:30 Monday nights
B.E.A.K.S.
Bird Ethereally Aural Kaleidoscopic Singers, a unique vocal group, begins again February 27, 2009.
SAX LESSONS
