The Word from Bird School of Music
November 25, 2008

Dear Parents and Musicians,

We are careening towards the holiday season.  This should be a good thing and, at the end of the day, as some people say, it will be.  The bottom line, as is the favorite line of some others, is that the true blessing we reap from organized gatherings is that we gather, and all the anxious preparations toward that end are forgotten when we are together.

On that note, let us at Bird tell you that we so appreciate your families and the family that has been cultivated at Bird under the auspices of music.  Your kids are truly amazing and we experience that every day, thanks to you.

On Sunday, at the Valueact Pavilion, we witnessed, in our humble opinion a gathering of epic proportions.  An event where families and friends convened to watch 15 hard-working bands expressing their dedication through the music of right now.  To date, we have delved into the past for our material.  This session allowed our community to interpret and share the stuff they like.

So…enough of that.  Parents, you’re back on duty as we move into the next session:  The British Invasion.  Ironically, PBS was peddling the full package of said time frame/genre tonight.  I believe they called it the British Beat.  You can get the entire collection from them by pledging $150.00.   Or you can check out iTunes.   Or your own record collection.  Think Tom Jones, The Animals, Petula Clark, early Beatles, Cream, The Rolling Stones, The Who, The Kinks, The Trogs, The Hollies, all the Thes.

We look forward to seeing you all again beginning December 1.  Please make sure you check in before Thanksgiving to ensure your time slot.  If you are new to the program, give us a call so that we may find a time that suits your band.  If you don’t have a band but would like to put one together, check out the BirdBlog or call us at 441-3551, email info@bird-sf.com.

Happy Thanksgiving,

Laurie
