I try never to speak for anyone but myself and sometimes my dogs. However, I know some of
you will nod your head when I tell you that around this house we experienced a disproportionate
amount of anxiety and excitement surrounding our first day and a half of school last week.
So Fall is here, complete with fog, homework, soccer, football, parent association meetings,
school lunch, bag lunch, high school apps, college apps, music lessons, test prep, driver's ed,
(please feel free to add your missing activity and/or grievance to the list).
The end of summer doesn't necessarily have to signify the end of fun. Registration for the upcoming
session at Bird has begun. That rhymes. Day One is September 25th, 2006. This is when bands begin
rehearsals for the big show on November 19th. It's also when new classes and programs commence.
I urge you to have a good look at the website to see what these are and how they apply to you.
Or come visit. We're almost done. The new space will shock and surprise you, delight and enthrall
you...In fact, some of you have already seen it. On Friday evening a very respectful gathering of
bands past and present gathered to play music together, eat pizza and take a sneak peak at the
nearly finished basement. Under the "Blue Room" at street level are two classrooms, "Sid and Nancy,"
a permanent stage, an amazing mixing board for great live sound and recordings and a very cool lounge
area complete with an even cooler ping pong table. This is where the creative energy will be
flowing starting September 25, 2006. If you're thinking you want to play in a band, call Bird to
help you put one together. We've expanded our teaching staff to provide larger availability and
variety in the private and semi-private lesson arena. Opportunities in engineering, songwriting,
special clinics -- including dance and drums, group lessons and more can be explored by logging
onto www.bird-sf.com.
Thank you to all of you who attended the Reunion Jam gracing us with your musical skills and
supreme confidence. It was so fun to see how you've grown (seriously), hear you play, watch
you laugh and participate in what turned into some remarkable ad hoc teamwork. You are the
inspiration for Bird and your continued enthusiasm and support are what makes this adventure
so worthwhile. Again, seriously!
