Bird Band Workshop
Grades 2-4 10:30am-Noon
No experience required. Come learn how to find your place in a musical ensemble.
Whether you already play an instrument or not, you'll discover what it means to
jam in a band, both free form and with structured material. This is a skill and
a thrill you won't receive in a private lesson.
Sessions I, II, III, IV, V
Beatles at Bird
Grades 5-8 1:00pm-3:00pm
Grades 9-12 3:30pm-5:30pm
Musicians will focus on the singing, songwriting and stylistic practices of the
Fab Four. This is a progressive offering. Each session will delve deeper into the
history and techniques established by John, Paul, George and Ringo over the course
of their long relationship. We'll integrate artwork, filmography and even
noteworthy tabloid tidbits. Participants can opt for as many or as few sessions as desired.
Sessions I, II, III
Write a Protest Song
Grades 5-8 1:00pm-3:00pm
Grades 9-12 3:30pm-5:30pm
If you have a favorite singer/songwriter, it's highly likely that his/her music is
calling attention to some injustice and that's why the material and the artist "speaks"
to you. Historical and contemporary speakers we might explore are: Bob Dylan,
Woodie Guthrie, John Lennon, Bright Eyes, Buffalo Springfield, Dusty Springfield. Rick
Springfield. There will be plenty of inspiration to help you create something really
powerful of your own. Proficiency in at least one instrument preferred.
