March 23, 2006
Dear Musicians and Parents,
"Wow. It's taken two days to come down from the experience we had Sunday night at Bird."
That is the compiled sentiment of kids and parents to whom I've talked since the second
session ended with The Don't Go Into The Basement Tour concert on March 19. Well, it
was fun for us, too. Isn't it interesting that being high is a condition commonly associated
with rock and roll and not one of us parents would consider that a positive connection. Hmmm.
What's obvious in this environment yet worth noting is that amongst the 30 performers,
the exhilaration that is derived from their preparation and performance is NOT artificial
and IS across the board, no matter what skill level or age. So much is called upon during
this process. It's quite an uplifting accomplishment. Much to our delight, a community of
young artists is developing here that will endure and evolve. We look forward to forging
ahead, playing new songs and exploring new musical relationships.
All the best,
Upstairs, Downstairs
We'll be back upstairs next week when Session III begins. While we loved reuniting
with our big space for tech rehearsals and the performance, we must have faith that
if construction is allowed to continue, we will eventually be graced with an
environment that fulfills our artistic dreams. Would it be optimistic/idealistic to
hope that the upside to "how time flies" in this instance will also create a completion
date that arrives "before we know it"?

Regular band rehearsals resume March 28. Please call to reserve your spot. While there
will be no scheduled band rehearsals April 10-22 (to allow for spring breaks), those
wishing to schedule extra band time during those days may do so.

Beatles Update
Our Beatles/ACT project got underway Monday with auditions. Thanks to all who
prepared so diligently and performed so beautifully. Rehearsals begin today.
