December 15, 2005
Dear Musicians and Parents,
In the midst of holiday consumer hysteria and last minute travel preparations,
not one of us has time to sit in front of the computer and read my amateur
philosophical musings. We all know that this is a magical time of year.
We all appreciate the idealism of youth and will be forced to acknowledge it
every day between now and January 2, 2006. And so, I get straight to the point:
On Sunday, eight amazing Bird bands assembled to put on one amazing Bird concert.
They played to a packed and very enthusiastic house. The consensus is that all
the intense preparation that preceded the event paid off in spades and not only
were all the performers pleased with their performances, but also, everyone had
a great time. Thank you to all of you for supporting, encouraging, driving and
rearranging your schedules.
This week, construction will begin in our beloved space. The lower level will be
transformed into a performance space and will include a lounge, recording
capabilities and individual classrooms for private instruction. The street level
will undergo minor adaptation to allow for handicap requirements. While this is
going on, we will move our current equipment upstairs to the space at 1930 Polk Street.
On January 23, 2006 we will re-open there with the ability to accommodate band
rehearsals and private lessons. We will also implement at least one special clinic
to be announced in the new year. The six-week session will culminate on March 19
with a concert showcasing the talents of the bands that have rehearsed together
during that period. Expect tech rehearsals to take place the week of March 13, 2006
and the performance to occur on March 19, 2006.
Please check the website for schedules and fees.
Give Bird a call. We'll miss you over the break and look forward to seeing you in January.
On behalf of Bird,
Very Sincerely,
|
